Projecting art on a building in Notting Hill Gate

Guerrilla advertising has come a long way since the flyposter. Images can be projected onto practically any surface and make a huge impact without leaving a trace. Notting Hill Gate’s less than lovely Newcombe House has long been a target for beautification and the Notting Hill Improvements Group have used it as a canvas for several public art projects over the past years. Now in November artist Anthony Murphy is using the angular high rise as an outdoor gallery, a surface to project his paintings onto. In conjunction with his show at the Orangery in Holland Park, he will be exhibiting a repeating sequence of images to an audience of passing pedestrians and traffic from 8 to 15 November, starting at sunset and continuing until the middle of the night. But it’s not really a guerrilla action – the whole thing has the blessing of the Royal Borough and landlord Land Securities.

Anthony Murphy’s paintings will be on show and for sale in their physical form from 14 to 18 November at the Orangery in Holland Park. But look out for them on Notting Hill Gate beforehand.
