Brunch at the Brompton Quarter café and restaurant is a stylish event, handy as a prelude to a hard day’s shopping at Harrods. There’s a seriously monied, international feel to the place and although it’s very stylish and hyper design-led, it’s not all style over substance and there’s quite a serious foodie angle here. There’s an extensive breakfast menu, a sharing menu and a separate a la carte, plus an impressive display of colourful salads on the vast side counter. It’s a big white space with windows on all sides and unusual chandelier installations everywhere, and downstairs there’s another huge space that’s offered for private parties too.
We were here for brunch, and hungry. An exotic range of fresh squeezed juices included mango, papaya and watermelon (truly delicious and decadent at a fiver a glass), while eggs were offered in lots of guises. My organic eggs Benedict with smoked salmon came with perfect poached eggs, while plain poached eggs on toast were simply and elegantly served. But for me the highlight was an almond croissant, probably the best pastry in town, a crispy creation, slightly burnt in a perfect caramelised way, its only shortcoming being that it was plainly too small. l PH
